Ashiatsu oriental bar therapy was an early massage therapy used by Buddhist monks in China, Japan and Thailand. The therapist will be using bars suspended above the table to provide support for the massage strokes that come from his feet as he balances above you and on you. Long deep compression strokes will tenderize those over-worked muscles as the therapist gracefully surfs the muscles up and down the back side of the body.
Benefits of Ashiatsu include alleviation of chronic back pain, deep muscle relaxation and improved posture due to the methods used which elongate the spine. Ashiatsu allows gravity to do the work, leveraging the therapists’ body weight to provide a depth unmatched by other techniques. In this session, Ashiatsu will be used to help provide satisfying deep tissue massage to the back, shoulders, hips, hamstrings and calves. The therapist will employ other deep tissue techniques for the rest of the body.
Unfortunately, Ashiatsu is not recommended for everyone and those who suffer from conditions such as osteoporosis or who are pregnant may not be suitable. Always discuss your health history with your therapist before undergoing the treatment.
